Position: Network Engineer/Consultant
Responsible for: Supporting our client's networks and enterprise-level applications/servers.
Services: TMG for six years has provided consulting services for a diverse group of small to large businesses, providing one-stop IT support in systems/networking, telecom, development, and eBusiness technologies.

PRIMARY EXPECTATIONS AND JOB DUTIES

This position requires an individual who enjoys being technically challenged and working with a diverse group of clients and on many different projects, often at the same time.  As an engineer/consultant, this position requires an individual who can maintain records of work performed and time spent for accurate historical notes and for billing purposes. 

As a small company, this position offers the unique ability to work in a small, closely knit growing company while providing their expertise to other businesses, both large and small.  Out of city travel is minimal as most of our clients are either local, or can be remotely managed.

Expectations

  • Will perform duties in a responsible and timely fashion according to industry standards
  • Will work independently and take the lead, as required
  • Will act professional at all times and represent company favorably in all dealings
  • Will maintain meticulous notes and time of all work
  • Will rotate on-call with other engineers
  • Will maintain their certifications and stay current with industry practices and solutions
  • Will provide time and materials estimates to customers or sales, as required

Duties

  • Provide troubleshooting skills and techniques for our clients and internally
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to our clients on maximizing their technology investments
  • Provide written procedures to our clients or internally, as needed/required
  • Will be involved in the sales process as required
  • Ability to lead and direct other engineers/technicians as required
  • Able to work nights and weekends as required
  • Learn our clients
  • Other tasks as assigned

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

This position requires a well-rounded individual with technical and interpersonal skills in many areas.  The position will require daily interaction with our growing base of clients.  There must be a solid understanding of businesses, business networks, data networking, and Windows systems and network administration.

Experience and education

Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college; Technical certifications compatible with the position; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience will be weighed more heavily than certification, though acquiring and maintaining certifications are a mandatory part of this position, and study materials and testing compensation are provided.

  • Experience in hands-on repairs and troubleshooting, especially down/critical situations
  • Experience in software and hardware upgrades
  • Experience in technical trouble-shooting and problem resolution via email, telephone, and in-person/on-site
  • Working knowledge/experience with
    • Windows 9x, NT4 (all), Windows 2000 (all), Windows 2003 (all), XP (all)
    • Exchange 2000, 2003, 2007
    • "Residential" gateways/broadband routers
    • Cisco routers, firewalls, and switches
    • NAT, Firewalls, and other security technologies
    • LAN and WAN setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance
    • Internet technologies (WWW, POP, SMTP, routing, etc)
    • Backup technologies (NTBackup, Veritas, and/or ARCserve)
    • Common business applications (Office, Project, etc.)
    • IT management tools (login scripts, group policy, active directory, etc.)
    • Enterprise antivirus products
    • VPN solutions
    • Network Management (SNMP)
  • Required Certifications (must be current): MCP
  • Recommended Certifications: MCSA/MCSE, CCNA, Compaq, HP
